Welcome to The Realm of Lithria's Rule page.

We take pride in how far we go to protect this wonderful community we have. This rules tab is just another level of protection that we extend out for the community. If you ever have any questions, complaints or need help then please refer to the proper tabs.

1. PVP
PvP, short for Player vs Player, is combat wherein two players fight each other, typically intending to kill, maim, or otherwise bypass the other by incapacitating them. PvP also encapsulates beyond those previously listed examples; it is RP where the resolution is violence solely. 5e D&D is, inherently, not balanced for Player vs Player combat. As a result, PvP is banned on the server, with the sole exception of sparring. Sparring, for this rule, is any combat done with the intent of friendly competition, training, or otherwise measuring of player's skills. At no point may sparring be used as a loophole for PvP, such as attempting to use it to incapacitate a character to bypass them as above—such attempts will be treated as breaking this rule. When sparring, every player involved must express their full consent, and every player involved must express to what extent they are okay with participating (such as until incapacitation, to half health, etc). If any player chooses not to be involved, no other player may force them to be involved, even should that revocation of consent occur after the spar has begun.
The difference drawn between sparring and PvP is in two facets. The first is that a spar is an understood and honor-bound fight—participants of a spar are not "surprised," and all are aware they are going to be participants in combat to the fight's end. The second is that while a spar may not be friendly, perhaps even being used as a way to fight through their issues, the spar's resolution becomes the end of matters. Bad blood may remain, but the combatants and the fight are self-contained and adjudicated in a way all characters had preemptive knowledge on. This is unlike PvP, which often can and does come from a surprise strike, used to seek emotional catharsis, to overcome the actions of another character, or to otherwise force and impart their will onto another; as well, PvP often overflows beyond the singular instance of violence to RP elsewhere, engaging outside characters in their thoughts and opinions on the event and on how to resolve it.
In addition, spells and other effects may not be cast on other characters without the express consent of the players involved. Thus, if someone wishes to read another's thoughts with Detect Thoughts, wishes to Command another character to act, or wishes to otherwise affect another character, the one casting the effect must first request to do so from the other. If either party says no, for any reason, the effect may not be used, and does not need to be honored. If you opt-in to sparring, the players in question may discuss if magic is allowable during their spar.
In short, PvP is completely disallowed, with the exception of spars. Sparring is a purely opt-in system whereby the operating assumption is that every player is
opted out, and whereby each player must actively opt-in before any instance of sparring. In addition, spells are opt-in only.

2. Character Cohesion
By the nature of the story on Lithria, and the size of the playerbase, it is essential that players and the characters they play fit within the town as a whole. As a result, players are not allowed to leave the town to make their own, or to live within a home that is too far from the edges of town. As well, it is essential that all players make a character that can mesh within a community and be an active participant within it. Whether it be making friends, defending the community, or otherwise interfacing inside of it, even evil characters must be willing and able to protect what remains of humanity (rather than attempting to sow division or to split away from the playerbase).
This rule is not in place to stymie player freedom, though it is understood that it can feel this way — however, we recognize that such play tends to form in-groups and cliques which fail to interact outside of their present bonds, and such can create a play experience that is exclusive, restrictive, and difficult to interface with for new and old players alike. As well, characters which aren't disposed towards working as part of a larger whole can create unnecessary division and conflict, which often escalates into damaging the enjoyment of the RP experience for all involved.

3.
ERP

Erotic Roleplay, or ERP, is any roleplay that contains sexual or erotic actions and/or heavy sexual or erotic themes that may be disturbing to a younger audience, or cause other players to become uncomfortable. It is not allowed on The Realm of Lithria. This clause also includes the rape of characters or talk of rape in any form. The determination of ERP is at the discretion of the investigating staff member and the affected party(ies).

4. IC Crime, Theft & Property Damage
4a. Theft - Players may not steal from other players. They may attempt to steal from NPCs, but are required to have DM oversight to do so.
4b. Property Destruction Players may not damage the property of other players in any way. Against NPC buildings, they may commit minor acts of vandalism (graffiti, superficial damage, etc), but greater damage (such as attempting to destabilize a building or burn it to the ground) requires DM oversight.
4c. Other Crimes
Players may not commit any crimes against other players. Depending on the nature of the crime, they may request DM oversight to attempt something against NPCs. The DM retains full discretion over the requirements and outcomes of such an attempt.

5. NPC Roleplay
Any roleplay involving the invisible population or NPCs needs to be moderated by a DM.

6. Character Age
The character you create must be an adult for their particular race. We do not allow child PCs on Lithria.

7. Roleplay Quality
A player’s duty is to ensure that they maintain the quality of roleplay on The Realm of Lithria. This means that immersion is important; please refrain from making direct references to characters and media from the real world, and refrain from topics or actions which may upset other players. There's a difference between alluding to "Sherwood Stones, the famous storybook detective" and simply naming "Sherlock Holmes." The former maintains immersion in an entertaining fashion—the latter takes you out of the experience. In addition, players are expected to not take real world characters and place them within Lithria—if such occurs, the character will be required to be reworked.

8. Roleplay
Etiquette
It is not only good etiquette, but better for the roleplay experience if immersion is maintained for all players. Thus, one may be asked to settle down if there is excessive out-of-character chatter, running and jumping around an active roleplay area, or other similar actions. If you are out of character, please inform those near you. However, one should treat all of their actions as in-character.

9. Metagaming & Powergaming
9a. Metagaming - Metagaming, or the act of using knowledge gained out-of-character and applying it in-character, is strictly forbidden.
9b. Powergaming - Powergaming is any action that is forced onto another character or NPC, skipping their ability to respond for your own benefit. An example would be if a character emoted that they brought their sword down and instantly cleaved a target in two—without rolling, and with the expectation of having automatically succeeded. Unless there is no threat to your character's health, wealth, friends, reputation, or equipment (among other things!) a roll should be made to determine success of actions.

10. Killing & Maiming
As per rule 1, killing and maiming of other players is strictly not allowed. During events, the threat of death will be expressed; catching a new sheep or hunting an elk is far less dangerous than fighting a dragon for its hoard, after all. In either case, maiming will not occur without express player consent in events.

11. IC & OOC Separation
You do not solve an out of character issue with an in character solution, and vice versa. The actions of a character should remain in roleplay and the actions of a player should remain out of character; attacking a character because of a dislike for the player or attacking a player for the actions of their character is absolutely prohibited. If a problem arises, do not hesitate to contact the staff.

12. Itemizer & Item Sources
All items with a mechanical benefit must have an IC source; whether it's from a farm you own, trading with another player, receiving it from an event or NPC, or otherwise. Using a cup at a bar, reading a book at the library, or picking a stone up off the ground are all acceptable examples of things that don't need a physical item in one's inventory to use. However, things such as magic items, armors, and weapons should be in your inventory when you use them (though they need not be equipped). Further, all players have access to the itemizer plugin—you may make items as you wish, but may not make one's with mechanical benefit to give yourself. A custom earring or family sword (with unchanged stats) is fine. A +3 vorpal sword you just made is not.

13. Cloning
The act of 'cloning' your previous character once they have died or otherwise are no longer able to be played by you is strictly forbidden. This includes secondary characters who are only minor alterations of the first, such as having the same or similar skin, character traits, or other defining characteristics.

14. Multiple Characters
All players are allowed to have up to 3 characters, as long as they do not directly interact with each other. Interacting in this way will be considered metagaming, and handled as such. If you wish to have another character beyond that limit, you must first retire one of your other 3. Doing so is equivalent to character death; while the character may be alive elsewhere in the world, they are considered completely unplayable, and cannot be played again. In extreme circumstances, playing a retired character again may be discussed with the admin team.

15. Loopholes
The act of 'loopholing,' or attempting to find ways around lore, rules, and guides set in place, is not allowed. These documents are put into place to ensure the core quality of RP is held, and that all players have a fair, fun experience.

1. Player Age
Due to the nature of some of the topics we cover on the server, both in the severity of content and the reality of living in a harsh, violent world, we require all players be 18 years of age or older to participate on the server—whether that be in the Discord or in Minecraft.

2. Player Hostility & Toxic Behavior

2a. Player Hostility - Players and staff are both expected to act kind to one another. The disrespect of players or staff members is not tolerated.
2b. Toxicity - A player will be considered toxic if they continuously cause problems in the community, whether they do so on the forums, Discord, in character, or out of character. Continued toxicity may be met with removal, should warnings go unheeded and the offending player continue to harm the enjoyment of the community.

3. Harassment & Player Removal Etiquette
3a. Harassment - The harassment of players and staff is strictly prohibited. If you or another feels harassed do not hesitate to bring the situation to a staff member.
3b. Sexual Harassment - If at any time, a player is caught sexually harassing anyone they will be swiftly and harshly dealt with. There will be no leniency in these cases, and if found guilty you should not expect to be allowed to stay.
3c. Player Removal Etiquette - Discussing the sudden absence of a player due to a moderation issue is against the rules—this extends to discussing the reason or severity of the punishments in question. Not only is it disrespectful, it causes unnecessary drama within the server. If necessary, staff can be asked about the circumstance or the player can be reached out to directly.

4. Global Chat, Arguments, & Player Issues
4a. Chat - Global and public chats should remain free of excessive foul language, capitalization, spammed chat, and inappropriate conversations.
4b. Arguments - Arguments should not happen in a global or public chat; either take it into private messages or bring the situation to the attention of a staff member.
4c. Player Issues - If one player is having issues with another—and the circumstances cannot be resolved personally—it is always welcome to approached staff to have these problems moderated. Staff will work with you and the other party to try and reach consensus or conclusion, especially if one party feels that they cannot approach the other.

5. Player Conduct
Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and/or bigotry and prejudice of any kind are strictly forbidden, as is playing a character with bigoted views intended to represent real life bigotry. Any examples of such will be handled with strictly and swiftly—we are an inclusive server, and we will not accept hate of any kind.

6. Advertising
Advertising another server is strictly forbidden; this can include mentioning other servers with the intent to recruit players to them.

7. Altering Terrain
The terrain and buildings on it can be modified in small ways in some circumstances, or even rebuilt in others. If you wish to make bigger builds, please contact a staff member, after which the placement and feasibility of such works can be discussed. If you don't know if a build will be approved, reach out!

8. Hack & Bugs
8a. Hacks - Any hacks, mods, or the like that give you an unfair advantage in game are not allowed. This includes things such as X-Ray or loaded dice, but does not include mods such as More Player Models or minimap mods.
8b. Bugs - Any bug discovered in one of our plugins should be reported to the first staff member available. Withholding the information and/or abusing the bug will result in punishment.

9. Lying to Staff, Staff Accountability, & Staff Authority
9a. Lying to Staff - When asked an OOC question by a staff member, specifically in the investigation of an incident or otherwise, you are expected to always answer truthfully.
9b. Staff Accountability - Staff are expected to follow every rule players do. If a player believes a staff member is breaking any rule—whether they are performing their duties as staff at the time are not—they should report the matter to another staff member. Staff members are also expected to be unbiased when investigating situations; if they believe they cannot be, they are expected to hand the investigation off to another staff member. A player may, at any time during an investigation, request a different staff member to investigate the situation if they believe the member they have been assigned has an unfair bias towards the investigation. Finally, staff members are expected to keep a level head when interacting with players and to keep a professional demeanor. If they feel they are incapable of doing such they are required to remove themselves from the situation. Failure to uphold these expectations can result in expulsion from all staff teams and barring from reentry.
9c. Staff Authority - Staff have final say in matters, should a circumstance arise where such is necessary. If a player believes the final ruling they were given was unfair, biased, or otherwise unjust, they may raise the issue to another staff member for resolution.

1. Appropriate Language & Images
1a. Appropriate Language - When using our Discord server you are expected to keep your cursing and inappropriate language at a reasonable level. Racism, homophobia, sexism, transphobia, and all other forms of bigotry are strictly prohibited and will be dealt with swiftly and harshly. There will be no leniency in those cases.
1b. Appropriate Images - When using our Discord server you are expected to keep the images used for your profile and the ones you link in chat appropriate. Do not link or put up vulgar or inappropriate images.

2. Chat Etiquette
No spamming the chat. If you have loud music In the background, or you are playing loud noises onto the channel when people are trying to speak, you will be either kicked from the server or moved to another channel.

3. Maturity
Be mature in how you do things. If you are having a meeting with another player or staff member, be respectful and they will give it in return.

4. Requests
If someone asks you to stop, do the mature thing and stop. If a staff member tells you to stop, you will be expected to stop immediately.

5. Trolling & Arguments
Do not under any circumstance troll on Discord. It will not be tolerated. This extends to protracted arguments as well, which will be shut down by staff if conversation becomes too heated or extends for too long.

6. Correct Channels
Try to keep conversation in relevant channels. While it can be understood that you do not change channels immediately as topics change, it helps keep things organized and prevents disruption.

7. Banned Players
Banned members are not permitted in the discord server or on the forums and will be removed. If they would like to discuss their bans they may do so in DMs with a member of staff.
